Col. John Boyd (1927 – 1997) was a fighter pilot but is best known for his contribution to military strategy with the concept of the OODA loop. This concept has been used in business and in military strategy but recently many have been trying to apply this concept to IT security. To date, these attempts are flawed because IT security has no offensive measure. What is the OODA loop of a prey species? This talk will introduce everyone to the details of the OODA loop with an example of both right and wrong implementations. We will then look at predator/prey theory to see how these defense-only strategies have worked
