I am guessing that very few of you actually sit up nights wondering how to start a Credit Union, but I will bet most of you think the current financial system just isn’t working right. This the story of two men’s journey to transform the world of banking as we know it by creating a financial entity that offers the best of the old and the new; a community based credit union that is innovative, high tech, and in future cashless. By taking the profit motive out (credit unions are nonprofit) and adding in a high tech service component, we hope to change banking for the Unbanked – Under banked – and the forcibly banked. If you truly care about the community you are trying to serve, and are willing to take a pay cut, then you will leave this talk with everything you need to know to begin your journey towards your very own Credit Union. And if not buy Jordan a drink later and he will tell everything else you need to know.
After heading up CRM departments for money center banks, and then starting his own strategic analytic company, Jordan decided that the system just is not working for us. So he worked with the Internet Archive to charter a Credit Union last year. Jordan has an MBA in Marketing/Information Systems from NYU. In addition to being a key note speaker in the US, Europe and Australia, he was the subject of a recent Wired article on credit unions, a contributing author to the “New Age of Financial Services Marketing”, and was an adjunct operations professor at NYU’s Graduate Business School.
