In this talk, I will review the process Security BSides Las Vegas, Inc. went through to become a 501(c)(3), and discuss the restrictions imposed by being an IRS-recognized charitable organization. I'll also discuss a few options to 501(c)(3), as well as the advantages to federal non-profit status. Participants in this talk will have a better idea of the pros and cons of 501(c)(3) status, and the challenges involved in becoming a 501(c)(3).
