IoT aims to makes our lives better, yet there is still no foundation for security controls on the devices that allow us to access the Internet, listen to music, watch television, control the temperature in our homes and more. This talk will look at the history of embedded device insecurity. We’ll explore some real-world example of how devices are exploited (and attackers profited). You will also learn what we can do to help fix these problems and push the industry for a much higher level of security for devices affecting our daily lives.
Paul Asadoorian has a background in UNIX/Linux security, embedded device hacking and penetration testing. He is the founder and CEO of Security Weekly (formerly “PaulDotCom”), an organization which has been dedicated to security and hacking related podcasts, blogs, webcasts and Internet TV for 8+ years. During the day, Paul is Product Marketing Manager for Nessus at Tenable Network Security, responsible for the development of go-to-market strategies and content for the vulnerability management market. Paul also performs penetration testing for a wide-variety of clients as part of Black Hills Information Security. In addition to his widely appreciated blogs, podcasts and frequent presentations at security conferences, Paul is the co-author of “WRT54G Ultimate Hacking” and “Offensive Countermeasures: The Art of Active Defense.
