The OpenMV project was created on Hackaday.io back in 2014 to build a low-cost, extensible, Python-powered machine vision module. It was entered in the 2014 Hack-A-Day Prize and went on to being a semifinalist. From the success on Hackaday.io OpenMV launched a KickStarter to build the module raising over $100K. Success seemed guaranteed until a bad choice of camera modules almost derailed the project and earned it the Fail of the Week on Hack-a-Day.
